When I look back at my Facebook page and I see SIX HUNDRED people follow my page I feel nothing but gratitude and gratefulness. When I became pregnant in 2009 I had a desire to learn more about pregnancy, labour and birth. I basically started reading and researching This was what I later heard was called a “birth geek”. This was my calling, this was my niche.
I personally really connected with a client centered approach, where the client (mom) is the expert on their own experiences. Moms can have different opinions than me and that is OK, because it is their family and their pregnancy. I do my best to educate and share my knowledge, but at the end of the day I’ve decided that I am there to provide emotional support and physical comfort for the family.
Without all my friends and family support this would not have been possible. Being a birth doula has challenges (middle of the night childcare, missing birthdays and events because i’m on call, a general love of placentas that has my friends and family are forever hearing about them) My friends and family have been there and understand this is a way of life and I am eternally thankful.
