Meet Lactation Consultant Roxanna

February 13, 2016

What made you decide to train as a lactation consultant?

I decided to become a Lactation Consultant after experiencing a lot of challenges with my first breastfeeding experience. I could not have persevered without the amazing support I received. I fell in love with the art and science of breastfeeding and making milk.

What areas do you work in and what do you charge?

I love supporting parents in their breastfeeding journeys. One of my favourite sayings among other LC’s is ‘I don’t care what you do with your boobs, unless you want me to.’ I want to give parents evidence based information so that they can make the best choices regarding how to feed their baby. I love working with a wide range of babies… twins, preemies, full term infants, newborns through toddler. I deal with issues ranging from no latching, tongue/lip ties, to supply struggles.

Where did you go to train?

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Seattle University and added to this with lactation specific education via an online accredited school Lactation Education. I have the personal experience and pleasure of breastfeeding all 3 of my children, still going strong with my third. I have volunteered at La Leche League since 2009 and found the in person experience to be a valuable add on to my academic courses.

Whatever areas do you work in and what are your fees?

Right now I am doing office hours at Strawberries and Sunshine. You can call them directly to book an appointment. This allows me to book clients for a lower rate all while coordinating childcare for my own children. I charge $65 an hr for office visits and this includes follow up support via email/text. I am also taking a limited number of home visits, with fees starting at $75 an hr for TriCities. My long term vision is to open up more time for home visits as my youngest gets older.

What do you do on your free time?

I love getting my kids outside, exploring nature and having fun. I love a strong brewed cup or organic earl grey tea with a bit of honey and cream and I love going to a good yoga class and spending time with my friends.
